Bazaar & Rummage
by Sue Townsend. Directed by Spike Sargent
A hilarious and moving play about human suffering where fears erupt, strength is tested and “caring” is challenged.
Set in London 1981, Bazaar and Rummage is a touching comedy about three housebound agoraphobic women – Margaret, Bell-Bell and Katrina – who enlist the help of Gwenda and her self-help group to overcome their disorder. Gwenda, an ex-agoraphobic devoted to help the “poor and innocent”, compels the three women to work at a bazaar in a local church hall where they must sift through the carnage and chaos that parallel their inner turmoil.
Sue Townsend (English author of the Adrian Mole series and The Queen and I) gives audiences a glimpse into the world of three agoraphobia sufferers and explores the intricate relationship between carers and sufferers.
