Audition

Growl Theatre is looking for actors to be part of our next production,
‘A Night with John Maddison Morton’.

The production consists three one act plays by prolific Victorian comic
writer, John Maddison Morton.  His work is hilarious, but rarely
performed today.   The plays are in the style of farce.

We are looking for a number of actors, to be part of either ‘[3]After a
Storm comes a Calm
‘ or ‘[4]The Two Bonnycastles‘.   The hyperlinks will
take you to the free source PDF copies of the scripts. We have cast
another play ‘Box and Cox’, from our existing members.  Part of the
play ‘After a Storm comes a Calm’ has also be cast.

We are looking for people to play:

After the Storm comes a Calm

Mrs Pelican –
* domineering mother who lives with her son and much disliked
daughter in law.  The role is moderate size; if you’ve lots of
experience it would probably count as easy, if you’ve only a little
or none, then it could be the perfect chance to ‘dip your toe in
the water’.

Joseph
* we’re not going to lie.  It’s a very small role with few lines.  He
is the servant of the household.  We are open to this being played
by a female if needs be.

The Two Bonnycastles

Mr Smuggins
* Slightly seedy, slightly curmudgeonly older male role.  Must be
40+.  The role is moderate size; if you’ve lots of experience it
would probably count as easy, if you’ve only a little or none, then
it could be the perfect chance to ‘dip your toe in the water’.

Mr John James Johnson
* Male.  20s to 30s.  Based on the text of the play, he is younger
and supposed to be a bit of spunk!  This role is one of the larger
ones.

Mr Bonnycastle, aka Jeremiah Jorum
* Male.  20s to perhaps young 40s.  This role is one of the larger
ones.

Mrs Bonnycastle
* Female.  20s to perhaps young 40s.  The role is moderate size; if
you’ve lots of experience it would probably count as easy, if
you’ve only a little or none, then it could be the perfect chance
to ‘dip your toe in the water’.

Helen
* Female.  Late teens to late 20s.  The role is moderate size; if
you’ve lots of experience it would probably count as easy, if
you’ve only a little or none, then it could be the perfect chance
to ‘dip your toe in the water’.

Mrs Bonnycastle
* Female.  Age indeterminate.  The role is smallish.

When?

* Thursday 2nd August 2012 from 6:00 pm

Where?

* Wilston Presbyterian Church Hall – MacGregor St, Wilston

What do I need to do?

* Read/download the script (we will have hardcopies available on the
night).  Prepare (ie be familiar with) one section of the play that
contains the character for whom you are interested in auditioning.
We will do a read through with you, plus also do a cold read of
another section.  It will just be the two directors and you (no
stress!).  Please don’t bother memorising the script.  Please
contact us via email () or via the Facebook
‘Growl Theatre’ page if you are interested in coming along, so that
we can plan the evening.

Who should come?

* Flexible, enthusiastic people who would like to do a good
performance and who are able to commit to the rehearsals.  You need
to be organised and the type of person who is willing to pitch in
and help with whatever is needed.  We try to be an inclusive,
non-bitchy and sociable group.  In short, if you want your own
dressing room, to tell everyone how experienced you are and would
be affronted at not having your own custom designed costume –
perhaps stay home and watch something on TV instead 🙂

What then?

* If you are cast, then we would be starting rehearsals for you on
the Monday following (IE the 6th August).  We are aiming at having
two rehearsals per week until performances 26th/27th/28th and
potentially the 29th of September.  A couple of extra rehearsals
would take place in the two weeks prior to the performance.  You
would need to join Growl Theatre which costs $30 (it covers
insurance and gives you free two free tickets to the play – so
basically nothing!).

But what about…

* We may have forgotten something or you may need to ask a question,
so please feel free to contact us (Jason Sharland or Kati Francis –
Directors) via email at , mobile (Kati –
0405424327) or via the Growl Theatre Facebook Group.  It should be
noted that there is always more demand from ladies than men, so if
you know of any eligible fellows – bring them along.   Can’t wait
to see you!

Best regards
